CRETE - Although Debbie Halvorson now says she's open to gun control, her endorsement by the National Rifle Association has earned her primary campaign attack ads funded by New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg's PAC. The $375,000 ads are running heavily on cable in the 2nd CD viewing area on Chicago's south side.
The top three running to fill Jesse Jackson Jr's seat are former Congresswoman Halvorson, State Senator Toi Hutchinson and State Rep. Robin Kelly. Thirteen others will be on the February 26th Democratic primary ballot, including former disgraced Congressman Mel Reynolds (D), who served time in prison for being sexually involved with a minor.
