Sources tell Illinois Review that fellow Democrats are calling on State Sen. Jeff Schoenberg (D) to resign his seat early so that his replacement and successor - State Rep. Daniel Biss - can vote on the gay marriage bill. Schoenberg, who is currently visiting Israel, is obviously not able to be in Springfield for today's roll call. Liberal activists have been contacting him overseas to make the switch, which means the gay marriage forces must be desperate for the needed 30th vote.
Biss stated on several occasions his support for gay marriage. On other social issues, Biss told an Evanston candidate forum audience he favors maintaining Illinois' status as the only state that still prohibits concealed carry of guns.
Schoenberg has served in the Illinois Senate since 2003 and is Senate President John Cullerton's Assistant Majority Leader.
More to come...
