SPRINGFIELD – State Representative David McSweeney was sworn in Sunday as the new state representative from the 52nd state house district.
McSweeney took the oath from Judge Peter C. Cavanagh, Sangamon County Circuit Court Judge, alongside his daughter Melissa.
“I look forward to getting to work on behalf of my constituents addressing the many challenges facing our state,” McSweeney said. “As representative, I have the same priorities as I do in the business world; fiscal responsibility and responsive leadership.”
McSweeney will replace Kent Gaffney for the remainder of the 97th General Assembly’s lame-duck session scheduled from January 6th -8th.
“It is an honor to serve the people of Illinois and I pledge to work with my colleagues to produce meaningful results,” added McSweeney. “In the coming days I will take my first votes and will begin working toward fulfilling my campaign pledges.”
The 98th General Assembly will then convene on January 9th where McSweeney will then represent the newly mapped 52nd district; which will include parts of Algonquin, Barrington, Carpentersville, Cary, Fox River Grove, Island Lake, Lake in the Hills and Wauconda.
