Legislators will be hearing many important issues today and tomorrow in Springfield. If you'd like to let them know how you feel you can email your legislator through the Take Action section of our website, or you can file a witness slip in for the legislative committee. Often times, witness slips are the only source of information to lawmakers if people are opposed or supportive of a legislative measure. Filing a witness slip is now very easy to do through the ILGA.gov website.
Here are three crucially important pieces of legislation that are in committee either Sunday afternoon or Monday:
SB 1673: Pension reform. This bill still leaves the defined-benefit structure in place, rather than switching state employees to defined-contribution plans. It does not do nearly enough to properly address $200 billion that Illinois has in unfunded pension liabilities. When filing a witness slip, in section III select "Opponent" for HFA 9, and in section IV select "Record of Appearance Only." Learn more about this bill and pension reform here.
SB 402: Satellite TV tax. This bill would add a 5% tax to satellite TV, costing Illinois consumers roughly $75 million a year. When filing a witness slip, in section III select "Opponent" and in section IV select "Record of Appearance Only." Learn more about the satellite TV tax here.
HB 6253: ObamaCare Medicaid expansion. ObamaCare calls for vast eligibility expansions in state’s Medicaid programs that could put a whopping one-third of all Illinoisans into this program that is unaffordable and provides lackluster health coverage to its enrollees. When filing a witness slip, in section III select "Opponent" and in section IV select "Record of Appearance Only." Learn more about ObamaCare Medicaid expansions here.
