GRUNDY COUNTY - Republicans in Grundy County are not happy with their state party chairman's efforts to influence legalizing same sex marriage in Illinois. The organization passed a resolution Wednesday night saying IL GOP Chairman Pat Brady's disregard for the state party's agreed-upon 2012 platform language should be cause for the State Central Committee to call for Brady to resign:
Be it resolved that the Grundy County Republican Party Central Committee immediately send correspondence to the Illinois Republican State Central Committee calling for the resignation of Patrick Brady as the State Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party and for his replacement by someone who supports the 2012 Platform of the Illinois Republican Party, including its position supporting traditional marriage and the traditional family.
Grundy County's resolution is the first such county statement to become public.
2012 Platform Committee members David E. Smith, Karen Hayes and John Parrott have also called for Brady to step down. WBEZ interviewed three State Central Committee members that condemned Brady's calls to lawmakers supporting same sex marriage legislation. State Rep. David Reis was the only lawmaker thus far to call for Brady to step down.
The National Organization for Marriage called for Brady to resign and pledged $250,000 to defeat any Republican lawmaker that supported redefining marriage in Illinois.
