EFFINGHAM - Thursday night, the Effingham County Republican Central Committee became one more county organization calling on IL GOP Chairman Pat Brady to resign, Steve Donaldson, the Effingham Co GOP Chairman reports. The decision was unanimous.
The local state Representative David Reis was one of the first General Assembly members to publicly call for the chairman's resignation. Will, Grundy, Clinton, and other counties called for Brady's resignation in past weeks.
Brady has not responded publicly to these calls, other than to confirm that he personally is opposed to the Illinois Republican Party's platform position on same sex marriage, and has no regrets for lobbying Republican Senate members to support the legislation during the recent lame duck session.
Effingham County's strongly-worded resolution reads as follows:
Be it resolved, the ECRCC,
Believing that marriage is a sacred institution recognized only as the union of one man and one woman,
Recognizing our deep faith in our Lord and Creator & upholding our Christian values,
Noting with approval our current Republican State Representatives & State Senators that continue to support traditional marriage,
Deeply concerned by the unwillingness of the Illinois Republican State Central Committee to take action to support traditional marriage,
Further concerned by the unwillingness of the Illinois Republican State Central Committee to publicly rebuke Illinois Republican Chairman Pat Brady for his open advocating of gay marriage,
Noting with deep concern the continued losses suffered by the Illinois Republican Party in state and federal campaigns,
Fully alarmed by Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady’s refusal to address the problems associated with the previous mentioned campaign losses by the Illinois Republican Party,
Deeply concerned by the Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady’s willful disregard for advocating the filling the vacant Precinct Committeeman spots throughout Illinois & a general dismissal of the importance the Precinct Committeeman position plays within the Illinois Republican party, campaigns & elections,
Applauding Bob Winchester, 15th Congressional District Representative to the Illinois Republican State Central Committee for publicly re-affirming his support of traditional marriage, the Illinois Republican Party platform & publicly rebuking Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady for his actions;
Considering also that one of the roles of the Illinois Republican State Central Committeeman is to be our voice at the state level party,
Calls upon on the Illinois Republican State Central Committee to pass a resolution to re-affirm their support of the Illinois Republican Party platform, specifically:
Section 5.C “not universally achievable, the ideal, best environment for children is within a two‐parent family based on the principle of marriage between one man and one woman. The Republican Party endorses a constitutional amendment protecting our Defense of Marriage Act and enshrining in constitutional law marriage as it is defined in our ‘DOMA.’.”
Section 5. D “Our laws should strongly support and celebrate the loving commitment a man and a woman make to each other in marriage. Our laws should strongly support and celebrate a loving, married couple bringing new life into the world and rearing their children in a secure and nurturing environment from conception to adulthood. No law should undermine the importance of that union, divide that union nor unduly burden the efforts of parents to rear a family in a safe and nurturing environment.”;
Commends our religious institutions & conservative groups who have expressed their opposition to the original passage of civil unions in Illinois & their opposition to the proposed passage of gay marriage in Illinois;
Expresses its appreciation towards individuals like Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel who have joined in judicial challenges to the previously passed civil union law as a violation of the Illinois State Constitution;
Condemns Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady for undermining the principles of social conservatism that is part of the core base of the Illinois Republican Party;
Strongly condemns Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady for abandoning his duties as Chairman to represent, defend & promote the ideals set forth within the Illinois Republican Party platform;
Expressing our concern for the continued attitude of Pat Brady towards the total lack of willingness to create & maintain an effective Get Out The Vote (GOTV) campaign outside of the Illinois Victory campaign;
Declares accordingly “no confidence” by the Effingham Republican Central Committee in Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady to faithfully execute his duties or to live up to the principles of the Illinois Republican Party that we hold dear;
Demands Illinois Republican Party Pat Brady resign his position as Illinois Republican Party Chairman & resign as a member of the National Republican Committee effective immediately.
