The Sauk Valley Media has an interesting story this weekend on the
travel spending of two Illinois Townships. According to the paper
Sterling township spent $19,586 last year on travel for its 20 employees
and elected officials and budgeted $18,000 for this year. Neighboring
Dixon township which is nearly the same size plans on spending $3,000
for travel this year. This begs the question are you paying attention
to your local township and its spending?
According to For The Good Of Illinois' Open The Books website Sterling township spends roughly $2.5 million annually while Dixon township spend around $1.25 million each year. Sterling township has three people on the payroll making more than $42,000 each; Supervisor Matthew Howze, Assessor Marsha Francis, and Frances Leal. Dixon township meanwhile pays Highway Commissioner Roger Bowers, Assessor Douglas Farley, and Supervisor Doug Farster nearly $60,000 each.
So are you paying attention to your local spending yet?
