Adam Andrzejewski and his For The Good of Illinois announced their intent to file a suite against Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka.
According to Andrzejewski, his organization filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Comptroller to open the State of Illinois checkbook. The FOIA was rejected - see Comptroller's letter HERE.
The Comptroller asserted that multiple staff members would have to work three days to fulfill the request and this was an “undue burden” on her office.
Eight months ago, Andrzejewski appealed to Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office for help. Initially, the Democratic Attorney General opened a case saying, “… further inquiry is warranted“. But no action has been taken to-date.
As a result, Andrzejewski filed a lawsuit, For The Good of Illinois, Inc v. Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar-Topinka, to compel production of the State of Illinois checkbook.
