Many young Egyptians had hope when they overthrew the regime of Hosni Mubarak last year for what they thought would be more freedom. But that freedom was an illusion and now an Islamist dictator Mohamed Mursi backed by the radical Muslim Brotherhood is assuming all power to himself, setting aside judges and the rule of law, and ramming through a Constitution based on Sharia law.
If there could be any more clear example of the folly of the Obama foreign policy, I cannot think of one. An important ally in the region is gone and the so-called Arab Spring brought nothing by tyranny by the Muslim Brotherhood. Obama stood by in Iran and did nothing to encourage real pro-freedom rebels when they tried to overthrow the anti-American tyrant Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. But he encourages anti-Assad rebels in Syria without knowing who they really are, who pays them, or where their loyalties are.
This is light years from a smart policy unless Obama chooses only to help rebels when they are controlled by the Muslim Broherhood and not rebels who really want freedom. When will the Obama Administration learn, if ever, that radical Islamists are not part of a religious movement but are in fact part of a new totalitarian ideology that only uses religion as a pretext for the dictators.
