Ever grow tired of hearing how bad things are in Illinois?
We know there are good things happening in Illinois - and often conservatives are involved. But being conservative means you're modest, and more focused on helping others or making things better than talking about it. Thus, few know about those deeds and efforts that could encourage others to duplicate.
So, tell us about things and people you know that are making the world better. We'll share them with our readers. We're looking for positive tidbits like this -
Every year at Christmastime, the Republicans of Wheeling Township host a Christmas party to gather the faithful volunteers. The "price of admission?" (Actually, suggested, not required, but nearly every attendee participates.) A new, unwrapped hat/gloves/scarf set (or pieces thereof) for a needy child in the township.
Each year, Ruth O'Connell and her elves collect lots of such gifts and deliver them to the Wheeling Township Hall for children whose families are struggling.
The Wheeling Republicans also ask volunteers to bring leftover Hallowe'en candy to the HQ for donation to troops overseas through the Yellow Ribbon Support Group, based in Palatine. Some members volunteer regularly with Yellow Ribbon.)
Wheeling Township GOP Chairman Ruth O'Connell directing volunteers at their Arlington Heights headquarters in 2010.
