DIXON - Rita Crundwell, the former comptroller for the city of Dixon, pled guilty to one count of wire fraud in federal court Wednesday in Rockford. Federal investigators accused Crundwell of stealing $53 million over the years from the city of Dixon dating back to 1990. Crundwell is scheduled to be sentenced on February 14 and faces 15 to 20 years in prison. She is alleged to have used that money to finance a lavish lifestyle including a luxury motor home and a horse breeding operation. Over the last several weeks federal authorities have been auctioning off items seized from Crundwell's property. The proceeds of the sales are an effort to recoup the tens of millions she stole.
