CHICAGO - Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to delay announcing which Chicago Public Schools will be closed next year, but it's fairly clear he plans to defy union teachers' demands to shut down no schools next year.
If the Illinois legislature allows the CPS to delay their school closings announcement until March 31, 2013, they promise they will not close any other CPS schools for the next five years.
But the Chicago Teachers Union doesn't trust CPS and insists there's no need to close any schools. They're telling lawmakers to vote against the 4-month extension in listing planned school closings. They've started a website "MoveChicagoSchoolsForward" to inform parents about the need for neighborhood schools. More HERE.
