Americans for Prosperity's David From reports that while Tuesday was a bad day for economic freedom in Illinois and throughout America, some rays of hope broke through the clouds. When left to the ballot, Illinois taxpayers overwhelmingly rejected increases in taxes and debt.
Americans for Prosperity- Illinois launched the Local Anti-Tax Initiative earlier this year to assist local taxpayers in efforts to oppose attempts by government to increase taxes and debt via referenda. AFP-IL used mail and robo-calls to assist local residents in opposing twelve referenda questions across Illinois, including seven attempts to impose a new local sales tax.
With the results in, nine of the twelve communities rejected attempts to raise their taxes and indebtedness, some by only a few percentage points. AFP-IL is pleased to play a role in these victories for local taxpayers and will expand this program in the next year to continue its effort to stand against higher taxes and more debt.
