From the Walsh for Congress campaign -
CHICAGO - Tonight WTTW's Chicago Tonight hosted the last joint appearance between Congressman Joe Walsh and Tammy Duckworth in the campaign for Illinois' 8th district. Throughout the 30 minute segment, Duckworth attempted to distance herself from her own extreme liberal positions, most notably on ObamaCare. Afterwards Congressman Walsh released the following statement:
"Tammy Duckworth continues to try to put space between her and her belief that ObamaCare did not go far enough. I find this disappointing because on one level she is once again being dishonest with voters, and secondly I wish she would just defend what she believes. Ms. Duckworth has stated repeatedly she did not believe ObamaCare went far enough, and she ultimately supports a government run healthcare system.
"Ms. Duckworth once again falsely claimed I want to 'end Medicare as we know it,' but she is the only one in the race that supports the proposal that guts Medicare by $716 billion to fund the government intrusion into healthcare. Tonight, she made it clear she is unwilling to reform entitlement programs for current and future generations - she'll preserve a status quo that bankrupts our kids and our grandkids. This is no different from when she told the Chicago Tribune editorial board she was 'not ready' to discuss Medicare reform.
"Tonight, I discussed how we need to be serious to pull our country back from this fiscal cliff. Ms. Duckworth understands this, but she's unwilling to do it. Without bold reform, we cannot preserve the guarantee that Medicare will even exist. In our final appearance, it has become clear who is ready and willing to tackle the tough issues and who is afraid to leave poll-tested talking points."
