CHICAGO – Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady today issued the following statement regarding allegations Cheri Bustos’ campaign violated campaign finance law by illegally coordinating an attack TV ad with Democrat Super PAC House Majority PAC:
“Cheri Bustos owes voters the truth about whether or not she violated federal election law by illegally coordinating with a Democrat Super PAC to launch a negative, misleading attack ad against Congressman Schilling. If, as the facts strongly suggest, Cheri Bustos broke the law, the Federal Election Commission should hold her and her campaign fully accountable.”
According to a complaint filed by the Schilling campaign, the Bustos campaign illegally coordinated with the House Majority PAC by distributing campaign footage for use in independent expenditure buys in Illinois’ 17th District.
The Bustos campaign released this B-roll video on August 17, 2012. The House Majority PAC began airing an advertisement on October 3, 2012 in support of Cheri Bustos, and the advertisement republished the same B-roll footage. The House Majority PAC admitted to using “Bustos b-roll” in the side-by-side script provided to television stations running the advertisement.
