ALTON- Just days after a disastrous press conference, Democrat candidate David Gill was a no-show for a long scheduled debate on an Alton radio station this morning.
The debate, scheduled between the three 13th Congressional District candidates, aired live this morning on WBGZ-AM in Alton. Republican Rodney Davis and Independent John Hartman appeared in-studio while Gill, who had confirmed his attendance earlier this month, withdrew just days prior to the debate.
Interestingly, Gill strongly criticized Matthew Goetten for refusing to debate him in the 2012 Democratic Primary Election, and accused him of hiding in a “groundhog hole." (Tom Kacich, “Gill challenges Goetten to 13th District debates,” Champaign News-Gazette, 2/2/12)
Gill also bragged that he was willing to address voters at “Any meeting at any town at any time," saying "Everyone in this district deserves the right to question me about my platform.” (Tom Kacich, “Gill challenges Goetten to 13th District debates,” Champaign News-Gazette, 2/2/12)
Gill also attacked Congressman Johnson in 2010 for declining to debate him; alleging that Johnson was trying to hide his record. (“IL 15th district Dem says incumbent won't debate,” Associated Press, 9/22/10)
