SPRINGFIELD - The American Federation of State, Municipal and County Employees Local 31 has a lot at stake in the upcoming legislative session. Last year, AFSCME worked with Service Employees International Union to push the 67% income tax hike through the Illinois General Assembly. Since then, they've joined the Illinois Federation of Teachers in a lawsuit to stop the implementation of the only legislation the Illinois General Assembly passed this year, SB 1313.
AFSCME will also be resisting any changes to COLAs, pension tighteners or health care benefits.
AFSCME posted the candidates that they support in contested 2012 races. In the Senate, AFSCME is comfortable with the positions expressed by the following candidates -all Democrats except for two Republicans in the Senate and two Republicans in the House.
