AURORA - Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay was endorsed this week by the United Republican Fund in her unopposed bid for the 33rd District Illinois Senate seat. Libertarian opponent Doug Marks faced petition objections that were sustained in early August, removing Marks from the ballot. McConnaughay says she's focused on taking her experience as board chairman to Springfield.
As Kane County Board Chairman, I consistently reduced spending and balanced the budget. I kept debt low, fully funded pensions, supported ethics reform and ensured tax sustainability. I remain committed to fiscal responsibility without compromising the taxpayers quality of life.
As a State Senator, I will put taxpayers first and ensure government lives within it's means. I will work with business to remove the roadblocks that hinder their ability to provide job opportunities to the hard working people of the Fox Valley. I will work to put an end to the dysfunction in Springfield that ultimately costs taxpayers jobs and money.
In 2011, Illinois Review interviewed McConnaughay during which she reviewed how she started in Illinois politics, shared her experiences with private sector unions as Kane County Board Chairman and discussed social issues.
