CHICAGO – Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady today called on all Democratic Congressional candidates in Illinois to renounce the DNC platform changes that removed recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
“Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, plain and simple,” Brady said. “The DNC’s decision to remove recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel from the party platform should trouble all Illinois voters who support the U.S.-Israel relationship. Illinois Democrats, especially those running for Congress, should renounce this platform change immediately.”
This morning, the Jerusalem Post reported that Israeli Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin spoke out in opposition to the DNC platform change.
“The fact that the Democrats removed a united Jerusalem as Israel's capital from their platform is more worrying than the argument over Iran," Rivlin told The Jerusalem Post. "The change may have far-reaching consequences."
Questions Brady is asking Illinois Democrats to answer are:
- Why did your party choose to remove recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in the DNC platform?
- Do you support the change?
- Will you renounce the change?
- Why do you think the Obama Administration (White House and State Department) refuses to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital?
