CHICAGO, IL – Lori Yokoyama, an accomplished Chicago attorney and DePaul University law professor, announced the start of her campaign to unseat Anita Alvarez as Cook County State’s Attorney.
“For far too long, the name of the game in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has been ‘Politics over Professionalism.’ I intend to change that,” said Yokoyama. “Our county deserves a chief prosecutor that will ensure justice is served, while maintaining the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.”
Lori Yokoyama possesses a diverse background within the Cook County legal community. With 30 years of legal experience, Lori’s practice has included civil and commercial litigation, corporate, employment, and administrative law. In recognition for her outstanding leadership, Lori Yokoyama has served as Vice Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association Judicial Evaluation Committee, as a member of retired Cook County State’s Attorney Dick Devine’s Asian Advisory Council, and as Regional Governor of the National Asian Pacific America Bar Association.
In 2009, Lori Yokoyama received the prestigious US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce/Wells Fargo Business Leadership Award. Lori also provides volunteer legal services to immigrant wives that find themselves protected under the Violence Against Women Act and under the Federal Trial Bar that provides legal representation to inmates who have been subjected to a violation of their Civil Rights.
“We need to hold those in office accountable for their actions,” added Yokoyama. “The Cook County State’s Attorney needs to be a thoughtful, independent prosecutor who will ensure that justice is served on behalf of all residents. They need to institute the transparency that is currently lacking, to remain accountable to the people.”
A lifelong Chicago resident, Lori Yokoyama received her J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law and holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. She is a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting/business, with honors. Yokoyama is a faculty member at DePaul University, College of Law, where she serves as an Adjunct Professor teaching Advanced Trial Advocacy.
Lori resides on Chicago’s South Side with her husband, Dale, and two children.
