State Treasurer Dan Rutherford calls on Governor Quinn to allow media access to state prisons -
SPRINGFIELD— “I am disappointed by the Quinn administration’s lack of transparency on state prison conditions. As a state senator and representative, I led tours of the Pontiac and Dwight prison every other year. I felt it was important to show newly elected officials and the media the conditions of the prison. For the governor to deny such access to a prison, and say we should just trust his administration with running state prisons is uncalled for and out of touch. State prisons are taxpayer funded and may be posing safety threats not just to prison staffers and inmates, but also to communities.”
