CHICAGO - Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr (IL-2) did not file to withdraw from the 2nd CD's 2012 race by Friday's deadline. The 47 year old congressman continues treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for a bipolar psychological condition that may be linked to gastric bypass surgery he received several years ago, his wife said recently in an interview.
Neither the Jackson family members nor his staff will speculate on when the Congressman will return to his duties.
Jackson is undergoing an ethics investigation by the U.S. House as to whether Jackson was involved in a scheme to buy Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat.
Jackson's Republican opponent in the 2nd CD is former Olivet-Nazarene University assistant professor Brian Woodworth, who lives in Kankakee. Woodworth has not yet filed a financial report.
