SPRINGFIELD - Republican delegates from throughout Illinois will be heading to Tampa Florida this weekend to attend the Republican National Convention. Picked by voters pulling Republican ballots in the March primary, delegates for GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum will represent Illinois.
While Romney delegates swept fiften of Illinois' congressional districts, Rick Santorum delegates won in 3 districts - the 12th, the 17th and, rather embarrassing for Illinois for Mitt Romney state chairman Dan Rutherford, a Santorum delegate won in his home 16th CD.
Of the top three delegate vote winners in the 16th, Foosland's Jan Peterson came in third, representing Santorum. The district's top delegate vote getter was IL Treasurer and assumed gubernatorial hopeful Dan Rutherford. Second was Roscoe's Timothy Koritz. The third Romney delegate on the ballot - Joshua Lanning from Pontiac - came in fourth.
In the 17th CD, Rick Santorum candidates swept the delegate race. Galva's Rich Nordstrom, Sterling's Kay Ferris and Osco's Jon Zahm - who also coordinated Santorum's scanty efforts in Illinois - won over Romney delegates.
In the 12th CD, the top three Republican delegate vote getters were Santorum supporters. Granite City's Michelle Sharp, Fairview Heights' Dalton Gray and Murphysboro's Sharee Langenstein won over Romney delegates.
Langenstein, a family attorney, was picked by Romney Campaign chairman Dan Rutherford to serve on the RNC platform committee. The committee finalized its platform draft Tuesday.
