CHICAGO – Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady issued the following statement regarding the expulsion of Derrick Smith from the Illinois House of Representatives after his arrest because of a federal criminal allegation that he took a bribe:
“Today’s expulsion of Derrick Smith is yet another example of the failed and conflicted leadership of the Illinois Democratic Party by Illinois House Speaker/Illinois Democratic Party Chairman/Father of the Illinois Attorney General Mike Madigan.”
“The fish rots from the head and his example of state government as a place to go to make yourself a buck has been perfected by Madigan for the past 41 years. It is not surprising that misguided members of Madigan’s caucus would think it is OK to grab a few cookies from the cookie jar while he thought nobody was looking.”
