FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS - Jason Plummer, Republican Nominee for Illinois' 12th Congressional District, welcomed Speaker of the House John Boehner to the District Monday morning.
Boehner and Plummer met with and addressed more than 500 supporters and volunteers in Fairview Heights. The Speaker's visit to the Metro East marked his first campaign trip for a non-incumbent candidate.
"I can tell you that you're not going to find a better candidate anywhere in the country (than Jason)," Boehner said. "I'm here today because I think Jason's going to win."
Boehner added that Jason's private-sector experience would serve him well in Washington.
"He's got the background in his family business and his background in his community involvement to come to Washington to be a real asset in the nation's capital," Boehner added.
Plummer, who works as the Vice President of Corporate Development at R.P Lumber Company and serves as an Intelligence Officer in the Navy Reserves, said he was humbled to have the Speaker's support.
"It's an honor to have Speaker Boehner visit the District on my behalf," Plummer said. "This event is another example of the positive momentum our campaign continues to gain from focusing on improving the lives of Southern Illinoisans and not Washington talking points."
