SPRINGFIELD – Disgraced Democrat state Rep. Derrick Smith will be on the ballot come November. The Democrat machine ensured that back in March even after he was arrested. However, Smith may be booted from the House, so the Democrats need to find a new candidate.
One challenger, Lance Tyson, appears to be their pick. Tyson is a black Democrat in the predominantly black, low-income but historically well-organized 10th House District on Chicago’s west side.
Tyson has the backing of the state’s Democrat machine – something Smith had until after the primary election. But the word “Democrat” won’t come after Tyson’s name on the November ballot. So, the Democrat Party has set up the "Unity Party" to run Tyson against Smith in order to retain the seat.
Tyson is a well-connected Chicago attorney with ties to both former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley and former Cook County board president Todd Stroger. ...More HERE
