EAST MOLINE, Ill.— The Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign raised more than $1.5 million during the 2011-12 election cycle, a record for a Republican candidate in the Illinois 17th District. The campaign has more than $945,000 cash on hand.
Schilling said that the vast majority of his campaign's donations come from individuals within the Illinois 17th District, "a stark contrast" to his Democratic challenger Cheri Bustos, the campaign said.
"Our supporters are out in force—this is truly a grassroots effort," Schilling said. "With the vast majority of our campaign's resources coming from small, in-district donations, these figures are proof that our common sense message of lowering taxes, balancing the budget, and leading by example is resonating with voters."
