The Leftist Daily Beast news blog and Newsweek Magazine recently recognized the power of a movement growing nationwide recognizing that life begins at conception, that embryos are human and should be protected as persons from the moment of conception. Personhood USA has grown to 22 states and several states will have the constitutional initiative on their ballots in November.
“They’re saying out loud what many anti-choice activists believe but don’t say upfront—they want to ban abortion in all circumstances,” says Donna Crane, a policy director at the advocacy group NARAL Pro-Choice America. “In some ways, it’s the more honest conversation to have.”
Why, banning abortions must sound almost as abhorrent to abortionists in the 2010s as banning slavery must have sounded to slave owners in the 1850s.
But not to worry, Illinois Leftists. That "Personhood" conversation is taking place in 22 other state legislatures where such discussions are allowed and encouraged, not in Illinois' abortion-owned State Capitol.
Defending abortion is one thing all four Illinois party caucus leaders - Democrat House Speaker Mike Madigan, Democrat Senate President John Cullerton, Republican House Leader Tom Cross and Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno - agree upon.
