As reported, the unemployment rate across Illinois increased in June, rising to 8.7 percent. The national unemployment rate is 8.2 percent.
In Illinois, the trade, transportation and utilities sector lost a net 4,900 jobs. Employment Security spokesman Greg Rivara says the bulk of the losses in those sectors were among retailers who continue to be hurt by weak consumer confidence.
