While children are being gunned down in the streets, Democrat Mayor Emanuel today is announcing rather meaningless, additional protections for illegal aliens in Chicago.
The largely symbolic (read: political) ordinance would add protections on the books for illegals who have broken U.S. law, but have not been convicted of a "serious" crime and are not wanted on a criminal warrant.
In short, illegal aliens can only be detained if they are wanted on a criminal warrant or if they have been convicted of a "serious" crime and remain in the United States illegally following that crime.
The city will continue its policy that no agency will inquire about the immigration status of people approaching the city for services and the Chicago Police Department will not question crime victims, witnesses and other law-abiding residents about their legal status.
Meanwhile, kids are still getting shot in Chicago.
