SPRINGFIELD - @BlueRoomStream reports that an Illinois House Committee voted 12 to 0 to expel State Rep. Derrick Smith (D-Chicago) Thursday afternoon in Springfield. The state Rep is being charged by feds for allegedly taking bribes from service providers pushing for Health and Human Services contracts.
The recommendation will now go to the Illinois House, where 79 votes will be needed to oust Smith.
The Chicago Tribune suggested Thursday that Smith may have been discussing the deals on wiretapped phone calls on days he was in legislative session.
