SPRINGFIELD - Embryonic stem cell or adult stem cell research? Which should Illinois have invested in?
When Illinois had the perception that there was extra tax dollars to invest in medical research, Governor Rod Blagojevich and the Illinois General Assembly decided embryonic stem cells were the future. Those concerned about the lives of those frozen human embryos, stopped and stunted at a crucial time in their development to be experimented upon, were mocked, ridiculed and ignored for their concern. Even during Illinois funding controversy, adult stem cells were showing much more promise and efficacy than embryonic stem cells.
Since that time, adult and umbilical cord stem cell therapy has advanced internationally. Family Research Council has gathered several amazing stories of men, women and children that have benefited from adult stem cell therapy.
