Karl Bair of Galesburg's simple, yet powerful letter to the Quad City Times' editor is an example of how effectively average citizens can and should positively communicate with each other -
I recently saw Rep. Bobby Schilling [IL-17] as he was leaving an event in Galesburg and I feel it was an encounter worth sharing with others.
I ran into him at the gas station and, despite his extremely busy schedule, he took time out to address a question I had about the direction our great country is headed in. His response was one of optimism that helped to restore some of my faith in politics, which has been shaky as of late.
In just two short years, Bobby has done his best to help bring jobs back to Illinois and retain the jobs that exist here locally. This has been no easy task in the face of an economically clueless president coupled with a governor who seems determined to drive business out of our state forever.
It seemed strange to me that after reading a recent submission that was supposed to be about Cheri Bustos, there was almost a complete absence of information about the candidate. (Joshua Schipp’s June 29 letter headlined, “Dart’s support helps Bustos campaign.”) The writer chose instead to tout the accomplishments of Sheriff Dart rather than those of Mrs. Bustos. This only raised further questions in my mind.
Bobby is a man of upstanding moral character who leads by example. It would be a grave mistake for the people of the 17th District to neglect the achievements and continued struggle for the country he is waging on our behalf.
This isn’t a movement; it’s common sense.
