Lawmakers that insist on cutting spending may ultimately find it difficult to pick up those sharpened shears after all. Tuesday, the bicameral Commission on Government Fiscal Accountability (CoGFA) agreed with only one proposed facility closing - a DCFS office in Skokie. The rest, including the Tamms Super Max prison, should remain open, Republican and Democrat members CoGFA recommended.
Quinn responded that he'll take their counsel into consideration, but that he has to deal with the budget shortfall and make some tough decisions. Historically, governors have followed CoGFA's recommendations.
