CHAMPAIGN - Doctors, lawyers, farmers and crane operaters are supporting State Rep. Jason Barickman (R-Champaign) as he challenges fellow Republican State Senator Shane Cultra (R-Onarga) to represent the 53rd Legislative District.
The Illinois Medical Society just wrote a check to Barickman for $3000. In January, the Illinois Lawyers PAC donated $1500 to Barickman. This past weekend, the McLean County Farm Bureau tossed $1000 into Barickman's campaign coffers, as did retired Senator Gary Dahl. The Operating Engineers Local 150 added $2500 in February.
Barickman showed $91,000 available at the end of the quarterly reporting, as compared to Cultra's $74,000.
Among other reportable contributions, incumbent Senator Cultra also received $1000 from the McLean Co Farm Bureau, and $1000 from Illinois' dental PAC, as well as two $1000 contributions from a Kansas City housewife named Brooke Wilken.
No Democrat is listed as running in the 53rd Senate district during the March 20th primary.
Neither Barickman nor Cultra chose to respond to the 11-group conservative coalition candidate survey available on Illinois Review.
