KANE COUNTY - Illinois Review has learned that a complaint was filed last week with the Kane County State's Attorney office concerning the secret recording of private conversations at a Kane County GOP dinner on November 10 and a Kane County GOP meeting on November 11.
IR has been told that the recordings were made on a digital device, which was found by a third party following the November 11 event. When asked about the situation, Michael Foote confirmed to IR that the found recorder was his, but that the recordings were legal because they were made at "public events."
Illinois has a uniquely tough eavesdropping law (see HERE and HERE), which makes it a felony to record another person without their consent.
The recorder is now in the possession of the Kane County State's Attorney Joseph McMahon, who had no comment when asked about the complaint.
