Assistant DuPage County State's Attorney Rick Veenstra announced yesterday that he's exploring a campaign for Congress in the newly-drawn Illinois 8th Congressional District. Said Veenstra:
"As a life-long resident of the western suburbs, I've always cherished the quality of life and the sense of community that we enjoy here. A few months ago, a Congressional campaign was the furthest thing from my mind. Recent events in Washington have changed that. If there's any lesson that our elected representatives should have learned from the last two elections, it is that people are tired of business as usual and want leaders who will go to Washington to solve problems rather than create more of them."
The irregularly-shaped new 8th District extends from the western border of O'Hare Airport to Elgin's west side and from the Lake-Cook border in Wheeling south to Oakbrook Terrace. It is composed of territory currently represented by Republican Congressmen Peter Roskam (IL-6), Joe Walsh (IL-8), and Randy Hultgren (IL-14); however, no incumbent resides in or is presently campaigning in the new district.
