State Senator Ed Maloney (D-Chicago) wants all home schools, private schools and non-public schools to register with the State Board of Education. SB 136, introduced last week in the Illinois Senate, reads:
The parents or legal guardians of all children attending non-public elementary or secondary schools in this state must annually register their children with the State Board of Education, in conformance with procedures prescribed by the State Board of Education.
SB 136 has not been assigned to an education committee yet. The Illinois General Assembly is not in session due to the snow storm, so it will be a chance for parents to voice their displeasure to Senator Maloney and their own state senators concerning this proposed government intrusion.
