UPDATE: Congresswoman shot at Tucson

UPDATE at 1:46 PM CST is saying she's still alive and in critical condition, undergoing surgery.

UPDATE at 2:21 PM CST reports that the number of injured are 19, 5 killed.  Congresswoman Giffords remains in critical condition.

Fox News is reporting that Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot and killed at a public event in her district today.  Eight Twelve Nineteen other people were also injured by a lone gunman. It is being reported (2:20 PM CST) that 5 persons were killed. Several in the crowd of an estimated 100 attacked the gunman after a reported 15 shots were fired.

The Democrat congresswoman was just sworn into office to begin her third term this past Wednesday.

Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips condemned the attack on Giffords, but warned supporters that the Tea Party movement would be blamed by political opponents.

"While we need to take a moment to extend our sympathies to the families of those who died, we cannot allow the hard left to do what it tried to do in 1995 after the Oklahoma City bombing," he said.
