Republican candidate for Illinois Comptroller Jim Dodge may not have received an official nod yesterday from the Elk Grove Township Regular Republican Organization, but the fact that the organization did not endorse any candidate in this race is viewed by the Dodge campaign as a success.
An endorsement could not be made because none of the candidates in the comptroller race obtained 60 percent of the votes, according to a township official.
“When you are up against a gubernatorial candidate and a three-term state treasurer and no endorsement is made because there was no clear-cut majority in the votes, it proves to me that Republicans truly do want a clean break from the politics of the past,” said Dodge. Both he and his opponent, Judy Baar Topinka, personally presented their credentials to the township’s organization at the meeting.
“Of course I would have been very happy and honored to have been endorsed by the Elk Grove Township organization, but I am extremely encouraged by the fact that I received enough support to impede an endorsement of my opponent,” Dodge said.
Dodge continues to take his message to voters throughout the state, which included a visit Saturday to Kewanee in western Illinois for the Henry County Octoberfest where he was met with great enthusiasm, including a supporter who said, “Jim is a very impressive and well qualified candidate.”
Dodge and campaign staff have talked to thousands of Republicans. “It’s very apparent that Republicans want new leadership and someone who will stick to core Republican values like smaller government that does its job well, a business friendly environment, and less government interference into personal lives,” he said.
A vice president of a global marketing information company, Dodge holds an MBA from the University of Chicago with concentrations in finance and economics.
