Rep. Bill Foster courageously voted “Present” on the House resolution to condemn Rep. Joe Wilson today. Foster, whose district leans Republican, is considered extremely vulnerable by national Democrats. Last week, President Obama accepted Rep. Wilson’s apology.
NRCC Response:
“Bill Foster is trying to have it both ways. On the one hand he wants to defend his President, but on the other hand, he knows that a ‘no’ vote would put him at odds with his constituents. If Bill Foster isn’t up to the task of taking a stand, then it’s time he hand his seat over to someone who can.” – Tom Erickson, NRCC spokesman

President Obama Accepts Apology. “President Barack Obama accepted a South Carolina Republican's apology for shouting, ‘You lie!’ at the president during his speech to Congress Wednesday night, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said there should be no sanctions against the lawmaker, Rep. Joe Wilson.” (LAURIE KELLMAN, “Obama accepts lawmaker's apology for floor remark,” Associated Press, September 10, 2009)
