Illinois ranked one of the worst states for personal freedom

Using a wide swath of comparative data to determine personal freedoms, including alcohol and drug laws, asset-forfeiture rules, and education regulations, the nonprofit Mercatus Center has compiled a list of the top 10 worst and best states for personal freedom.
