Geneva, IL – Wednesday the Kane County Young Republicans hosted guest speaker Ethan Hastert and elected new club officers for the year. Ethan, son of former Speaker Denny Hastert, is considering a run for the 14th Congressional seat against incumbent Congressman Bill Foster. The monthly meeting at Houlihan’s in Geneva closed with the election of:
Chairman - Cody McCubbin (Geneva)
Vice-Chair - Stephanie Navarro (Aurora)
Treasurer - Drew Veeneman (Elgin)
Secretary - Don Henry (Batavia).
Ethan Hastert, a practicing attorney downtown who resides locally in Elburn, discussed a broad spectrum of issues and the need for new political leadership. “People say Congressman Foster was elected twice. He can’t be beat… but he doesn’t represent our district in Washington.” During a subsequent question and answer period Ethan identified himself as a conservative, concerned with the direction of US regulation and fiscal policy. He specifically opposed “Card Check” and “Cap and Trade” legislation.
During other business, young republican members unanimously passed a chapter constitution. “This is an important step forward, necessary to become an officially chartered chapter with the Federation of Illinois.” Today documents were filed for formal recognition with the Federation of Illinois Young Republicans.
The Kane County Young Republicans re-organized last November and presently have 45 members. Previous guest speakers include unannounced gubernatorial candidate Dan Proft and Kane County Treasurer Dave Rickert. Meetings are held monthly, visit www.kaneyoungrepublicans.com for details.
