Speaking of political suicide, what kind of quote is this from a guy considering a run for governor or U.S. Senate, especially one who's not that great on gun rights' issues anyway? As quoted in today's Tribune:
"I think that the decision to raise taxes by 50 percent in Illinois is political suicide," [Congressman Mark] Kirk said of Quinn's proposal to raise the tax rate to 4.5 percent from 3 percent, coupled with an increase in the personal deduction. "I think the people of Illinois are ready to shoot anyone who is going to raise taxes by that degree."
First of all, those of us who ventured to the TEA parties are angry about taxes, unlimited spending, bailouts and unheard of debt -- we're not proned to shooting anyone, just tossing them out of office. We are not the rightwing extremists and domestic terrorists Homeland Security is warning law enforcement about.
Second, we're not allowed to legally carry guns in Illinois, Congressman.
Thirdly, notice how this line is getting huge media attention because Kirk is interested in running for governor, when Congressman Schakowsky's "despicable" comment about the anti-tax crowd is smoothed over?
When will Republicans learn that the mainstream's job is to string up all Republicans with "gotcha journalism" and when will never-on-guard Republicans learn not to shoot off their mouths or shoot themselves in the foot?
Maybe that's why we can't be trusted with a conceal and carry law in Illinois....
Now the Dems have all they need to shoot down the Republican hopeful for statewide office in 2012. Que sera, sera...
