The Chicago YRS responded via press release this afternoon to today's controversy over who's invited to the Tea Parties on April 15th.
Chicago, IL – Last week the Chicago Young Republicans (CYRs) announced their Chicago Tax Day Tea Party. It is set for the evening of Tax Day, April 15th, on Lake Michigan aboard the largest sailing ship in America.
The CYRs have invited Republican National Committee Chairman, Michael Steele to their event. One of the most important issues to Republicans is lower taxes, cementing the importance of having the new face and leading voice of the party on hand for this seminal event at a pivotal point in our nation's history.
However, the CYRs do not wish to limit attendance at this event to Republicans. We welcome partisans of all stripes, independents, and more generally, all Chicagoans concerned about trends toward an all-encompassing government that undermines individual iniative and freedom of economic liberty.
"The oppressive taxation imposed by various levels of government transcends partisanship," says Jeremy Rose, President of CYRs. "From the $800 billion stimulus package that will cost taxpayers an estimated $2 trillion, to Governor Quinn's proposal of a 50 percent increase in state income taxes, to the highest local sales tax in the nation, higher taxes harm all Americans. We invite all individuals across the political spectrum to join us in sending a powerful message to our government. Simply stated, we are tired of being robbed of our hard earned money."
All media outlets are invited to attend and report on this historic message.
It is time to send a message to the Mayor, the Cook County Board, legislators and the Governor in Springfield, and President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress in Washington, that our tolerance for higher taxes has reached a tipping point. Come join the CYRs for our Chicago Tax Day Tea Party on April 15th between 4:30 and 6:30 (set to sail at 5:15pm). Please find event details at chicagoyrs.com.
