NAPERVILLE SUN
-- FROM THE ARTICLE: The Republican Party of DuPage County is hosting its own annual fundraiser two weeks later, to celebrate Lincoln Day. They're expecting lower attendance numbers this year, after 1,000 showed up in 2008 to hear then-presidential candidate John McCain speak. Michael Steele, newly elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, will give the keynote address at the $150 per plate dinner, held Feb. 20 at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott Resort.

-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: Democrats John Cullerton, Alexi Giannoulias, Dan Hynes, Dick Kay, Lisa Madigan, and Pat Quinn flee the poverty and crime that they created elsewhere in Illinois and come to DuPage County to outrageously and hypocritically take advantage of the prosperity and safety that Republicans created in DuPage County

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Pat Quinn will lead an entourage of state officials descending upon an annual Presidents Day fundraiser hosted Sunday by the Democratic Party of DuPage County. He'll be joined by Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, Comptroller Dan Hynes and Senate President John Cullerton at the $75-a-plate dinner. The unprecedented showing of state officers reflects Democrats' expansion in DuPage during the last election cycle, leaders of the county party say. It's been remarkable -- we have four of the state's constitutional officers here," said Chairman Bob Peickert. "I think it's kind of a culmination of everything we've been doing this past year. . .getting Democrats to realize there is a county organization." If attendance says anything, then excitement certainly is up this year. About 415 have registered for the dinner at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace, more than double the attendance in 2008. And guests last year paid $25 less to hear Quinn speak, then as lieutenant governor. Along with hearing Quinn again, party loyalists this year will be able to pose questions to keynote speaker Dick Kay, a former NBC 5 political commentator and host of "Back on the Beat" on the left-wing talk radio station WCPT.)

-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: Democrat Party of DuPage County Executive Director Amy Tauchman "doesn't believe the state government would have been better off had Republican Judy Baar Topinka won the election two years ago."
http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/napervillesun/news/1414281,6_1_NA05_QUINN_S1.article#
(FROM THE ARTICLE: "Having Kay there will allow people to ask questions, from having a state senator becoming president to our governor being impeached," said Executive Director Amy Tauchman. "But also, how do we have government break away from this insider, insular behavior that is breaking our bank?" Those corrupt political games are occurring at all levels of government, from the College of DuPage board all the way to Washington, Tauchman said. But while she condemns the impeached former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, she doesn't believe the state government would have been better off had Republican Judy Baar Topinka won the election two years ago. "I think it was a zero-sum game," Tauchman said. "I do think the good things Blagojevich did, like raising the minimum wage, I don't think those are things Judy Baar Topinka would have done." Many Republican legislators, while speaking positively about Quinn, still emphasize his ties to Blagojevich -- like when Quinn told the Chicago Tribune that his running-mate was an honest person during their 2006 race. But Quinn was simply running on the ticket that was offered by the party, and hasn't interacted with Blagojevich over the last two years, Tauchman said. She says Quinn will add to the evening's tone, which will sound against government corruption. "I think he's been a (populist) person for a long time," Tauchman said. "He's stood on the side of veterans, he's been for a fair tax system.")

Political commentator and Cicero spokesperson Dan Proft will speak at the Milton Township Republican Central Committee's monthly meeting Wednesday evening, February 11, at the beautiful Wheaton Bowl Banquet Hall, on the southeast corner of Geneva Road and Gary Avenue. The social hour, which includes free pizza and soft drinks, starts at 6:30 PM, and the program starts at 7:30 PM. Wheaton is Dan's hometown. Dan will be introducing Karl Rove at the Northwest Suburban Republican Lincoln Day Dinner on February 23 in Schaumburg. According to Dan's biography posted at www.urqmedia.com: "Dan Proft, a principal of Urquhart Media, LLC, has run political campaigns and served in various capacities in state and local government since 1994. Since February 2007, Proft has been the featured political commentator on the Don Wade & Roma Morning Show on WLS-AM 890, the number one news talk radio station in Chicago, where he provides a weekly commentary. His commentaries also appear regularly in Human Events (HumanEvents.com), the nation's leading journal of conservative thought since 1944. In April 2008, Proft was added as a featured columnist for School Reform News, a national newspaper published by the Chicago-based Heartland Institute. Additionally, Proft is a frequent guest on radio and television public affairs shows. Proft is also a regular panelist at workshops and conferences on media, politics, and foreign affairs. Among his civic pursuits, Proft serves as a Board member for the Illinois chapter of Operation Homefront, a non-profit whose mission is to provide assistance to military families, particularly those with a spouse serving overseas. He also serves on the Associate Board of The Cradle, an Evanston-based adoption agency. Proft is a 1994 graduate (B.A.) of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He earned his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in Chicago, Illinois. In 1992, while at Northwestern, Proft helped found an independent weekly campus paper, the Northwestern Chronicle, which continues to publish to this day. Proft, a practicing Catholic, grew up in west suburban Wheaton, Illinois. An avid sports fan, Proft coaches youth basketball in Cicero and Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood." I coordinated Milton Township for Dan when he managed Pat O'Malley's gubernatorial primary campaign and I served with Dan on the Steering Committee of the Illinois Center Right Coalition. Dan spoke at the January 2008 Lisle Township Republican Organization monthly meeting and at the April 2008 TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois monthly meeting.
ROSANNA PULIDO FOR CONGRESS
-- Will 5th District Republican Candidate Rosanna Pulido Be on The Ballot for the March 3rd Primary Election?

(THE PRESS RELEASE: Keep your fingers crossed, but so far so good! Here is the press release about tomorrow’s final (we hope) hearing on the subject. . .Will 5th District Republican Candidate Rosanna Pulido Be on The Ballot for the March 3rd Primary Election? Rosanna Pulido, founder of the Illinois Minutemen Project, and Republican candidate for the IL-5th Congressional District, announced today that a hearing will take place TOMORROW, THURSDAY FEBRUARY 5TH at the Cook County Board of Elections. The hearing begins at 9:30AM. The Board will determine if the challenge to her signatures will be upheld or dismissed and whether her name will appear on the Primary Election Ballot. Pulido collected over six hundred signatures, far more than the required 319 signatures. But 416 of her signatures were challenged, with many of those challenges suspicious. Such political machinations are allowed by current Illinois law. In what can be best described as a personal vendetta, the challenge of Pulido’s signatures was initiated by none other than Joshua Hoyt, of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Hoyt’s challenge included incorrect calculations, blank signature lines, and, by his own admission, was initiated solely to derail Mrs. Pulido’s campaign. Mr. Hoyt even challenged the signature of Mrs. Pulido’s own father. Under the Kafkaesque challenge process, the objection to the validity of Richard Pulido’s signature was sustained. Pulido appears to have survived Hoyt’s challenges, but the hearing at the administration building on Thursday will be the determining factor in whether she appears on the ballot this March 3rd. Pulido is being represented in the fight by noted election attorney Andrew Spiegel. He is being assisted by Free & Equal, Inc., a ballot access/petitioning firm headed by the nationally recognized ballot access advocate Christina Tobin. The hearing will be held at 69 W. Washington Street, Room 2260.)

-- Paul Vallas to run for Cook County Board - Charles Thomas (FROM THE ARTICLE: "I think he brings a lot to the party. More importantly, he brings a lot to government. I think he would be a positive force," said Peter Sylvestri, (R) Cook County commissioner. . .On the Republican side, Palatine State Senator Matt Murphy has been mentioned as a possible candidate and county commissioner Tony Peraica, who ran and lost in 2006, has not ruled out another try. "I have not reached a determination today and I am keeping all options open," said Tony Peraica, (R) Cook County commissioner. If there is a contested Republican primary next year it could attract so many suburban voters, and there could be an effect in the Democrat race. Vallas says he erased all the debt left over from his 2002 run for governor and he appeared confident he could raise the money -- two to three million dollars -- to run countywide in 2010.)

DAILY HERALD
-- Vallas wants to run Cook County as a Republican - Joseph Ryan
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=269452
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The announcement comes after sit-downs Monday with a list of top Republicans, many of whom are giving him a warm welcome to their struggling party. "It is a huge step for our party to bring over someone of his caliber and credentials," says Lee Roupas, chairman of the Cook County GOP. House Republican Leader Tom Cross of Oswego called Vallas' move "fantastic." "I think he is a substantive guy with integrity and credibility who is a problem solver," Cross said. Still, Vallas is undoubtedly going to face an uphill battle. To start with, running as a Republican is not normally considered the easiest path to winning over the heavily Democratic county. The last GOPer to head the county was Richard Ogilvie, who served from 1966 to 1969. Plus, he may face a crowded field in the GOP primary and then another reform candidate in the general election, if Cook County commissioners Forrest Claypool and Mike Quigley or Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart beat out incumbent Todd Stroger. Claypool said today that Vallas is a serious candidate, and he warned Democratic leaders that Stroger might not be able to beat him in a general election. He said a reform candidate would have a better shot. On the GOP side, repeat candidate Tony Peraica is expected to make another run and state Sen. Matt Murphy, a Palatine Republican, is also thinking of throwing in a bid. The intraparty contest will come as Vallas is sure to face challenges about his own Republican credentials. "He certainly would have to answer questions about why he chose to leave the Democrat Party and join the Republican Party," said Murphy, who adds he is still "very seriously considering" a run of his own. Vallas said he has never viewed himself as a partisan politician. And top Republicans point to his record of fiscal responsibility as a state and city budget manager as well as his preference for school choice. Roupas said Vallas would "help rebuild the party in an image that stands for fiscal responsibility and ethics.")

-- Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran looking for a few good women, minorities - Tony Gordon (FROM THE ARTICLE: When he became sheriff two years ago, Curran said there were 116 employees in the operations division, including three blacks and three Hispanics. Since then, 10 new deputies have been hired, and that group includes four females and four blacks. He called the need for women candidates especially critical. Even in these tough economic times, of 187 people who signed up to test for a deputy job, only 10 were women. "Women need to feel that a career in the Lake County sheriff's office is something they want to have," Curran said. "And to bring more women into the office, I want to be able to show that there are female command officers to assist them in their careers." He said he has reached out to church and community leaders in an effort to attract diversified candidates, and has formed a group of female officers to go into the community to recruit.) (DIERSEN: Newly Republican Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran harms the careers of two females and two minorities by implying that they were recently hired/elevated to promote "diversity." The Republican Party platform opposes gender and race based preference giving. To give preference to one group is to discriminate against another group. Curran should reconsider because his words/actions promote destructive anti-male and anti-White stereotypes.)

-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD IN DUPAGE EDITION: In a front page editorial unethically made to look like a news article, the Daily Herald argues that everyone should be able to live in whatever country, whatever state, whatever county, whatever township, whatever municipality, and whatever neighborhood that they want to no matter how much income or how much net worth they have. Of course, the Daily Herald wants America, Illinois, DuPage County, the nine townships in DuPage County, and all the municipalities in DuPage County to a) engage in income/wealth redistribution, socialism, communism, totalitarianism, etc. and take more and more money away from those who have more money and give that money to those who have less money and b) pass laws that promote "lower-cost housing" in high-cost areas. In 1978, your GOPUSA Illinois Editor and his bride ended up buying a home in Wheaton because of a lack of "lower-cost housing" in Hinsdale, Glen Ellyn, and Naperville.

SOUTHTOWN STAR
-- Suburban Republicans welcome Vallas - Nathaniel Zimmer (FROM THE ARTICLE: Murphy and Peraica were less enthusiastic about Vallas' entry into the race than others but not openly critical. Vallas called Peraica yesterday, and the two spoke for about 10 minutes. Peraica said he appreciated the call and is "not foreclosing any options." "I am skeptical, but I think he has always carried himself with dignity and as a professional," he said. "He's going to have to establish his credentials as a new convert." Murphy said he would be "interested to see how people receive" Vallas. "He's a respected guy and seems to be a decent guy, and those are traits that people are looking for," he said. "But I think I have those too." Vallas ran as a pro-choice candidate in the gubernatorial primary. But Republicans on Wednesday downplayed the importance of social issues in a county race. The last time a Republican won a countywide race was 1992, when Jack O'Malley was elected state's attorney.)

-- Pat Brady: Fan of Steele Republican national committeeman Pat Brady, a St. Charles resident, is a great fan of new RNC Chairman MICHAEL STEELE and is among nine co-chairmen of Steele’s transition team. Steele is former lieutenant governor of Maryland and the first black head of the GOP. The head of the transition team is Reince Priebus, chairman of the Wisconsin GOP. “I met with him several months ago and basically committed to him right after that, because I like him,” Brady said of Steele. “I think he’s the right messenger for the party. “What you need when you’re not in power, in my opinion, is. . .somebody that is very bright, articulate and can handle the media,” Brady added. Steele has the needed conservative principles, he said, and is also “a very engaging guy. . .very likeable.” “His race has nothing to do with it,” Brady said, although he said the GOP does need to broaden its base - and not just racially. “We need to get suburban housewives back,” he said. Brady, a former state and federal prosecutor now with Deloitte LLP in Chicago, is a Bloomington native and cousin of state Rep. DAN BRADY, R-Bloomington. - Bernard Schoenburg

LAKE COUNTY NEWS SUN
-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: VERY SAD: Newly Republican Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran harms the careers of two females and two minorities by implying that they were hired/elevated to promote "diversity." The Republican Party platform opposes gender and race based preference giving. To give preference to one group is to discriminate against another group. Curran should reconsider because his words/actions promote destructive anti-male and anti-White stereotypes. (FROM THE ARTICLE: During a roundtable discussion Wednesday, Curran lamented the need for more women officers patrolling streets and working inside the Lake County Jail. "Women officers have an advantage over men because they can handle children and women victims," he said. "People feel more comfortable speaking to women officers." Curran said minority officers have an advantage over their white counterparts in the field because the public tends to be more trusting of them compared to others.)

DIERSEN: Everyone on the planet earth knows that beyond tragically, the Illinois news media is dominated by Democrats, by the Combine, by abortion advocates, by homosexual activity advocates, and by other anti-conservatives. The Illinois news media has given tremendous coverage to Democrat Vallas' becoming a Republican. Vallas promotes abortion and homosexual activity and I am sure that he opposes direct election of Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) members. Republican Kirk Dillard does not promote abortion, he does not promote homosexual activity, and he supports returning to direct election of IRP SCC members. How much coverage would the Illinois news media give Dillard if he became a Democrat? Beyond tragically, the Illinois news media promotes Democrats, promotes the Combine, promotes those who promote abortion, promotes those who promote homosexual activity, promotes anti-conservatives, and promotes those who oppose returning to direct election of IRP SCC members.
