Don't you love the greenies who think that the Earth will become a green paradise when Barack Obama moves into the White House? Well, even Barack won't be able to control what a recent National Academy of Sciences study is forewarning may happen in 2012, the result of the sun's established activity cycle. According to the NAS study, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" will look like a documentary, not a science fiction.
From a Fox News story:
"Impacts would be felt on interdependent infrastructures with, for example, potable water distribution affected within several hours; perishable foods and medications lost in 12-24 hours; immediate or eventual loss of heating/air conditioning, sewage disposal, phone service, transportation, fuel resupply and so on," the report states.
Outages could take months to fix, the researchers say. Banks might close, and trade with other countries might halt.
Six NAS members have been picked to serve in Obama's administration, including NAS member Steven Chu, who's been tapped for Secretary of Energy.
