UPDATE 1x: Schock joins Congress as youngest member

UPDATE 1:  Congressman Schock did us all proud last night when he showed the nation Illinois doesn't consist only of political kooks. During a short segment telecast from the Capitol on Chris Matthews' Hardball, Schock emphasized the need for Republicans to lead the way back to fiscal conservatism.

Thanks, Aaron...such a different perspective than those we saw all day with Roland Burris, Dick Durbin and President-elect Obama.

Congratulations to Peoria's new Congressman to be sworn in today in DC, 27 year old Aaron Schock, who today will become Congress' youngest and one of its newest members.

Schock is already drawing the attention of Republican leaders, and while he's likely to be overshadowed by the embarrassing chaos surrounding Senate apppointee Roland Burris, we join U.S. Rep. John Boehner in congratulating the former state rep:

"Representative Schock is one of the stars of our freshman class here in Congress. I look forward to working with him,” said House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

A great story in the State Journal-Register today gives some insight into Schock's introduction to DC:

It’s all a bit head-spinning for Schock, who still keeps his “congressman” badge handy in case he is questioned by the Capitol Police about who he is. “They look at me and look at me and look at me,” he said.

Former State Senator Debbie Halvorson (D-11) will also be sworn in as a freshman member.

This is our future governor, god willing in 2014. I think a collar county dem e.g. Jack Franks, sits in for one term after next election.
