An interesting thought just occurred to me, and I'm guessing a handful of people in Illinois have thought about this over the last 24 hours. If Pat Quinn does take over for Governor Orange Jumpsuit (aka Governor Hairdo or Blago the Terrible), he will be the incumbent Governor in 2010. I'm guessing that Mr. Quinn would want to run for Governor on his own in 2010 and it is always more difficult for an incumbent to be knocked off, especially from members of their own party.
Here is a list of some possible Democrats that might be interested in running as well.
Just wondering how this might change the thoughts of Lisa Madigan and Alexi Giannoulias. Were the two of them happy when it was announced that Governor Orange Jumpsuit was being arrested and it was likely that Pat Quinn would be taking over shortly? If Pat Quinn is going to run in 2010, which I would be willing to take multiple bets on that, the move by the US Attorney's Office just made it a LOT less likely that Lisa or Alexi could get the nomination.
Granted, I'm only talking about the Dems. Hopefully the IL GOP will be able to pull themselves together and run a really viable candidate and we won't have Quinn or any other Dem in the Governor's Mansion in 2 years.
