During the run up to the election, many of us did various critiques of the Obama campaign. As I referenced in numerous posts before the election, the various programs that were identified by Senator Obama represents huge spending increases. Sing with me to the tune of "Old McDonald": "And on that campaign he had a program, ee-i, ee-i oh. With a program here, and a program there. Here a program, there a program, everywhere a program, Old Obama had a program, ee-i, ee-i, oh".
As his pastor was fond of saying (with a slight modification) "Barack Obama's programs, are coming home, to roost". So, it is curious that his transition website change.gov, has now been swept of the details of his agenda according to the Washington Times article here.
Never fear, intrepid reader, we won't forget.
As a member of the loyal opposition, we have two basic duties. One, and I mean this sincerely, Barack Obama will be our President - period. We all watched in disgust after George Bush beat Al Gore when our liberal friends were petty and vicious. I joked with a lot of people when Clinton was President. However, I noticed a ground swell of nastiness, bitterness and out and out vicious attacks against the President when George Bush took office. We need to be vigilant and forthright in our criticism of the new President. But, we need to do so with class and a reverence for the office. This does not mean that we can't have some fun, but let's be classy about it. As the old adage goes "people get the government they deserve". The nation voted to bring in a very liberal governance, now they deserve what they get. The opposite side to that argument is that we, as conservatives, need to remember that if we act with contempt at the President, we will deserve exactly what we get too.
The second duty of the loyal opposition is to be that opposition. I disagree with President elect Obama on nearly every major issue. During the campaign, he said a lot of things that SOUNDED like a conservative idea. Well, we will hold you to those points Senator Obama. I've saved a full copy of candidate Obama's agenda book, which I downloaded from his website. Every once in a while, I'll compare what he wrote and promised to what he does governing. I sincerely hope that the fine conservative sounding ideas will find their way into law, but excuse me for being a slight bit skeptical. I'll reference what he wrote as a candidate to what legislation he seeks and what programs he institutes in executive orders. As a staunch conservative, I know that the conservative ideas that I hold true are best and right for America. It is with those same ideas that we will defeat President Obama in four years.
The liberal press may not want to remember what candidate Obama said, because in many cases, they were onto the ruse. Just don't expect the rest of us to blindly ignore what was promised.
